IES 2020 – Indian Engineering Services
IES 2020 – IES (Indian Engineering Services) is a Civil Services Exam, conducted by UPSC (Union Public Services Commission). IES is conducted for recruitment to the various posts in Indian Engineering Services. IES exam is also known as ESE (Engineering Services Examination) which is conducted only for the core engineering fields- Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Electrical and Telecommunication Engineering.

Educational Requirements: As per the eligibility criteria, it is essential for an applicant to hold a degree in engineering from a university recognized by the state/centre government or a degree/diploma in Engineering from any foreign University/ College/Institution as recognized by the Government for the purpose from time to time or have passed the Graduate Membership Examination of the Institution of Electronics and Telecomm.IES Eligibility Criteria 2020
Age-Criteria: Applicant must not be less than 21 years or more than 30 years of age as on 1st January 2016. Age relaxation shall be applicable for the certain categories as per the government rules.
IES Application Form 2020
Eligible interested candidates will have to submit the applications for IES 2020 via online mode. Do provide valid e-mail i.d. which is active as the Commission may use electronic mode for contacting you in future. Applicants must enter all the details in the blank fields in the online application form. In addition to that, it is also mandatory to upload the scanned copy of the photograph and signature in the application form. The application fee of Rs.200/- has to be paid in cash at the SBI Bank or using the net-banking facility.
IES Admit Card 2020
The admit card will be issued by UPSC about 03 weeks before the commencement of the IES 2020 Exam. The e-admit card will be uploaded on the Commission’s website. Candidates would have to download their e-admit card while they will be required to bring the printed copy of their call letter to the exam centre on the day of the exam. The call letter will not be accepted in any other form. Also, the Commission will not dispatch the admit card by post to the candidates.
IES Exam Pattern 2020
IES is a written examination comprising of objective and conventional papers. The exam will be held in a span of three days. Total number of papers to be attempted by the candidates is six. Following is the quick snapshot of the exam pattern:
- Day I: General Ability Test – Part A: General English & Part B: General Studies – 200 marks
- Day II: Objective Paper I and II – 200 + 200 = 400 marks
- Day III: Conventional Paper I and II – 200 + 200 = 400 marks
The maximum marks in each of the above-mentioned paper is 200 and time duration is 2 hours. The maximum marks in the IES written exam is 1000.
IES Syllabus 2020
The Syllabus of all the papers in IES is published by the Commission. Aspirants are suggested to get their hands on the detailed syllabus and prepare well in advance. The syllabus is quite vast, aspirants must ensure to prepare al the topics. It is beneficial to start the preparation as soon as possible to secure good marks as the competition in IES is very high.
IES Selection Procedure 2020
UPSC has divided the process of selection into two phases – Written examination (1000 marks) and Personality test (200 marks). Candidates must qualify in each of the paper of the written exam. Subsequently, written qualified candidates will have to fill the detailed application form after the announcement of the written exam results. All such candidates will then be invited to attend the Interview cum Personality test. The eligibility and documents of the candidates will be thoroughly checked before the interview. Final appointment offer will be given to the candidates after the final results to be announced on the basis of the performance of the candidates in the written examination and personality test.
IES Cutoff 2020
The IES 2020 Cutoff is the minimum benchmark score required to be obtained by the candidates to qualify the exam. It is essential to qualify in each paper as per the cutoff score to get ahead in the process. The final offer of allotment to various Services/Posts shall be made on the basis of the ranks obtained by the candidates as per the preference of Services expressed by them.
IES Result 2020
The result of IES 2020 written exam may be announced in the month of December. The merit list of the candidates will be published on the UPSC’s website. The final result shall be announced in 23rd Feb after the conduct of the Interview/Personality Test. The merit list of the final recommended candidates to be appointed to the various Services/Posts in Ministries/Departments under the Indian Engineering Services shall be made available.
