Joint Seat Allocation Authority

JOSSA 2020The Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) conducts JoSAA for admission to undergraduate engineering programmes. Registration for JoSAA is expected to start from the third week of June . Candidates who have qualified JEE Main or JEE Advanced examination will be eligible to register for JoSAA till last week of June . JoSAA choice filling process will start simultaneously along with JoSAA registration. The counselling of JoSAA will be held for candidates who have qualified JEE Main for admission in NITs, IIITs and other GFTIs and JEE Advanced will be held for admission in IITs and ISM Dhanbad. A total of 97 participating institutes of JoSAA will offer admission to the eligible candidates. There will be a total of seven JoSAA counselling rounds along with mock seat allotment rounds for making better choices of courses and colleges. In 2017, over 36000 seats were filled in by the participating institutes of JoSAA – 31 NITs, 23 IITs, 20 GFTIs, 23 IIITs. Eligibility Criteria for JoSAAIn order to be considered eligible to participate in the Joint Seat Allocation procedure, candidates will have to satisfy one or more of the criterions that have been indicated below:

For IITs and ISM Dhanbad

1. The candidate should have qualified JEE Advanced  for academic programs other than preparatory courses offered at the IITs and ISM Dhanbad and should also satisfy the Class 12 (or equivalent) examination performance criteria;

2. The candidate should have qualified JEE Advanced 2017 for preparatory courses offered at the IITs and ISM Dhanbad and should also satisfy the Class 12 (or equivalent) examination performance criteria;

For NITs, IIITs and GFTIs

3. The candidate should have secured a rank in Paper-1 of JEE Main  and should have a minimum aggregate of 45% marks in Class 12 or its equivalent examination (40% in case of OBC-NCL, SC, ST, PwD category candidates). To calculate the aggregate score, the marks of the candidate in any one language paper, Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry/Biotechnology/Biology/Any other Technical vocational subject and a fifth subject will be taken into consideration;

4. The candidate should have secured a rank in Paper-2 of JEE Main and should have a minimum aggregate of 50% marks in Class 12 or its equivalent examination with Mathematics as a core subject.

JoSAA Participating Institutes

Around 87 institutes will participate in the joint seat allocation procedure. The list of the participating institutes has been given below:

  • The 19 Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs).
  • The Indian School of Mines (ISM), Dhanbad.
  • The 32 National Institutes of Technology (NITs).
  • The 18 Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs).
  • 18 Other Government Funded Technical Institutes (GFTIs).

JoSAA Registration and Choice Filling

Candidates have to register themselves to participate in JoSAA counselling. Candidates who have qualified JEE Advanced and JEE Main have to fill and submit JoSAA registration form separately.

JoSAA Seat Allocation Procedure

The seat allotment of JoSAA will be held along with the counselling rounds. The JoSAA seat allocation is being done as per the merit rank of the candidate as well as preferences of colleges and courses. After acceptance of the seats, candidates are provided provisional seat allotment letter and they have to report to the Institute for document verification. After seats are allotted to the candidates, they can upgrade or withdraw seats as per their preference. Candidates who have been allotted seat must pay the balance fees and report to the allotted seat in person for confirming their seats.
